WORKING WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT (6)

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God” (1 Corinthians 2:12 NKJV).

Every child of God is in-dwelt by the Spirit of God. The residency of the Holy Spirit in your heart is the clearest proof that you have been adopted into the family of God. “And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father” (Galatians 4:6 NLT). One of the key jobs of the Holy Spirit in the life of believers is to help them understand and appropriate the benefits of the redemption that Christ has accomplished for them. These are benefits conferred on believers solely on the basis of grace and never on the basis of their personal merits. Such blessings of redemption would include spiritual benefits as, adoption, remission of sin, justification, sanctification, protection, and the assurance of eternal life in heaven. These are the things that accompany salvation (Hebrews 6:9); they are conjoined with salvation because without them, our redemption would be incomplete. Beside these, there is also the baptism in the Spirit whereby the believer is empowered to do the works of Christ –preach the gospel of the kingdom, heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers and cast out demons (Matthew 10:7-8). All of these are the benefits of redemption which are provided by grace and can be appropriated by the believer by faith. They are not earned but free gifts to be received by faith to the praise of the glory of His grace.”

God chose us for salvation, sanctification through Spirit and truth. Immediate and continuous process – live like Christ, showcase God’s glory

The redemption Christ accomplished for us affects the whole of who we are. Paul helps us to understand that we are tripartite beings comprising of spirit, soul and body. So he prayed, “Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Thessalonians 5:23 NKJV). God cares for the wellbeing of our spirit, soul and body; therefore He made provisions for each of them in the redemption. He is not only committed to making sure that we get to heaven at the end of our life on earth, He also wants us to enjoy life here to the max. Therefore, the Bible enjoins us not to be haughty or trust in riches but to repose our trust in God because He “gives us richly all things to enjoy” (1 Timothy 6: 17, NKJV). God has blessed the world with so many good things for the enjoyment of His children. Unfortunately, several of us seem to believe that God would rather have us moody than happy. We have been deceived to believe that to be poor is to be blessed. However, the truth is that, poverty is an invention of Satan to enslave people to his hellish kingdom. Our Lord took our poverty as much as He took our sins upon Himself. He judged and destroyed both on the Cross. “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich” ( 2 Corinthians 8:9 NKJV). In the same way He was made sin so we can become the righteousness of God in Him, He also became poor so that we might become rich! Similarly, healing is part of the benefits of our redemption in Christ “by whose stripes you were healed” (1 Peter 2:24 NKJV). Our healing is a done deal! It has been provided for by grace and can only be appropriated by faith. It is not a promise to be claimed but a reality to be experienced. It is not a prayer point for a night vigil but a testimony of Christ’s redeeming love.

When God gave us Christ, He together with Him gave us all things. So Paul raised the question by the Holy Spirit, “Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else?” (Romans 8:32 NLT). The Father gave Jesus everything that He has. One of the ways the Holy Spirit will glorify Jesus is take what belongs to Him and give them to us. “He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you” (John 16:14-15 NKJV). This is mind blowing but it is the truth. God’s will is for us to be complete in Christ lacking in nothing “as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:3 NKJV). God has made full provision for everything we need to live godly on earth. He wants us to prosper and be in good health even as our soul prospers (2 John3). He invites us to “come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16, NKJV). God desires to load us daily with benefits. He wants our cups to overflow with His blessings. Let the Holy Spirit show you those “things that have been freely given to us by God.” As He births the revelation of those things in your heart, take hold of them and appropriate them by faith and they shall be yours in Jesus them.
