“When You said, “Seek My face,” My heart said to You, “Your face, Lord, I will seek” (Ps 27:8 NKJV)
The seed for personal revival is planted with the decision to seek the face of God. Personal revival is experienced at the point of encounter between God and the believer. The Scripture captures this truth neatly for us saying, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded” (James 4:8). The singleminded choice of a believer to strip himself of all distractions and draw near to God often snowballs into a cosmic romance with God reciprocating in kind to the believer. The outcome of this mutual exchanges between God and the believer is revival. It must be noted that the desire to seek God’s face is not native to the human nature. The desire is planted in the heart of the believer by God Himself – “When You said, “Seek My face,” my heart said to You, “Your face, Lord, I will seek. The soul seeks God but only as a response to His prior proddings. To seek God’s face is to desire His presence, to long for a deeper connection with Him. It usually involves a heartfelt yearning for intimacy with God, to know Him more deeply and to be known by Him. He made a clear promise concerning the outcome of our effort to seek His face saying, “And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13). Let us go all out in search of God and thus harvest a revival.
Seeking the face of God is an enduring quest that calls for strong commitment and humility.
Seeking God’s face means intentional pursuit of intimacy with Him. This will involve embracing humility as a lifestyle. God has never hidden His delight in relating with the humble as against the proud. The Prophet Isaiah elaborates: “For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones” (Isaiah 57:15). Arrogance repels God while humility attracts Him. Mary’s song of praise unveils God’s disdain for the proud and His respect for the humble: “…He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He has put down the mighty from their thrones and exalted the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich He has sent away empty” (Luk2 1:51-53). God welcomes the meek and humble and makes them comfortable in His Presence. Such are they who will seek the face of God and find Him. Let us do whatever is necessary and make very necessary adjustments to avail ourselves of such graces and thus carve niches for ourselves in the secret place of the Most High and happily abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

Seeking the face of God is an enduring quest that calls for strong commitment and humility, as well as a readiness of heart that can weather the storms of discouragement. This certainly calls for prayers on consistent basis. Prayer provides the needed drive to persevere in seeking God until He shows up. A prayerless soul is a strange entity in the courts of God. Seeking the face of God must involve spending quality time in prayers and paying close attention to His words. It necessarily means to seek His will, His guidance and His direction in all we do. Prioritizing prayer is a sure sign that personal revival is in the pipeline. Such prayers must be based on the promises of God’s words. The Bible is replete with God’s invitation to His people to pray, with a lot of promises to answer their prayers. Revival praying must be inspired and guided by the provisions of the Word of God. Along with prayer, we must come to God with praise and worship, by which we acknowledge the presence and the power of God in our lives. We are in a season of revival and each of us must take full advantage of this season to experience a fresh encounter with God in Jesus name.
